Learn about the new way to gmeet everyone everywhere

Frequently asked questions—and other important information

What is GMEET?

GMEET is the first of a new breed of web directory sites. GMEET enables you to find like-minded people who have profiles on different websites. Whether it's social or business networking, friends or work colleagues or online dating, GMEET lets you find everyone everywhere. We do this by asking people to list their profiles and those of people they know. Other people can then visit those profiles and add more info that people can search. By doing this you create a great resource for everyone, enabling people to find everyone everywhere, no matter which of the hundreds of social or business networking or online dating sites they may choose to join.

We're in beta testing right now which just means we're in the early stages: we're opening up to gather as many profiles as we can in a short period of time. We've got literally dozens of fantastic new features coming shortly, but we can't do much more until we've got loads of information. So, please do add your website profiles, build up your hotlist and then keep coming back to check on our progress. It's going to get really interesting just as soon as we've got a great diversity of profiles.

What are quick links?

We know you can add sites to your Favorites list or your Links area in your web browser, but GMEET is all about website profiles. We enable you to add quick links to your favorite sites like Facebook, MySpace and YouTube so that you can make GMEET your home page and very easily access all the sites that you enjoy using. No need to keep typing the website names into Google or to keep searching lists, just add your favorite sites to GMEET and set us as your home page.

Why should I add website profiles?

We all want to share our profiles and to expand our networks, whether our network of friends or our network of business contacts or people we're interested in for whatever reason. Commercial websites like Facebook, MySpace and YouTube are not yet integrating users of rival sites to enable people to find out about more people than their own users. GMEET enables you to find and chat to users of loads of different websites, even if you're not a user of that particular site.

So, we all know that Google crawls the web, finds information and adds it to its index. Yahoo started life as a web directory where people manually added their websites. Two different approaches to gathering information. Because many profile-based websites don't allow automated computer programs to trawl for information, and because doing so is not the best way to find personal profiles and to learn about individual people, we take the approach of asking users to add information that will help everyone else.

Do I need to give GMEET the passwords for my accounts on profile websites?

Absolutely not. We never ask for your login information to other websites. You can add your own profiles and those of your friends, contacts and other people whose profiles you find online. We will shortly be asking people to add more details about the profiles, and we may visit the public info to add more details ourselves, but we will never require your login details to the websites. GMEET is not about managing your profiles from one place, it's about providing a web directory of profiles so that people can find you more easily and so you can find others more easily.

What's a hotlist?

GMEET makes it easy for you to keep track of all the website profiles in which you're interested. It's like a bookmarking service, enabling you to go back to the profiles of your friends and contacts with a single click from our main page.

When are the other features coming?

We can't launch our search feature until we've got plenty of juicy stuff for you to search. We also don't want to reveal too much about GMEET until we've got plenty of profiles. You know what people are like, they nick your idea and claim it as their own. Best just say that we've got a whole bunch of fantastic features that you will not find anywhere else.

What are tags and stats?

Tags are one or two words that help us to understand more about a profile. Stats are a more focused set of information, such as someone's location or physical attributes. They're both features that are coming soon. You can't add tags or stats right now, so just get adding your profiles and register with your email address so that we can let you know when you can find out more about tagging your profile.

Do I need to register to use GMEET?

No. We recommend that you do register because that helps protect and save your hotlist and makes sure that we can remember who you are. It also means that you can access your hotlist from any computer in the world just as soon as you're signed in. If you don't register then you can still add profiles, build up your hotlist and use our other features, but you may find that it all vanishes one day.

Your email address is optional, we know people hate spam and we promise to never share your email address. Giving us your email address just means that we can send you updates about exciting improvements to GMEET and our new features, and it also means we can reset your password if you ever forget it. If you just want to set a password for your account, then that's cool, we don't mind not knowing who you are.
